Biography

Born and raised in what was once Yugoslavia, I was educated at the University of Belgrade (BA & MA in Comparative Literature and Literary Theory) and Yale University (MA, MPhil & PhD in Comparative Literature). I am also an alumnus of The School of Criticism and Theory at Cornell and have served as a Junior Research Fellow in Literary Studies at King’s College, Cambridge. I have taught at institutions in the US, Europe, and Asia, and I currently teach in the English Department at Lingnan University in Hong Kong. I am the author of a book on the history of the Bildungsroman (Virginia, 2020) and the editor and translator of several further volumes. My essays have appeared in a range of journals, including New Literary History, Comparative Literature Studies, Victorian Literature and Culture, Journal of Modern Literature and ELH. I am also the editor of a special issue of Genre on Aestheticism Now. My new book, Peripheral Aestheticisms: Aesthetic Detachment and the Demands of History in Twentieth-Century Literature, will be published by Northwestern University Press in 2027.
